VIDEO GAME SCORES

“Fallen From Destiny” - original composition

Fantasy/ adventure, intense, fast paced

A variety of staccato instruments (strings, upright piano, synths, harp, dulcitone, etc.) weave in and out to create an evolving ostinato, underneath a melody played by bassoon and cello.

Around 0:40 there is an emotional shift as the percussion really kicks in, the harmony changes, and violins take over the melody.

Some light synth textures are buried throughout, giving a dystopian aftertaste.

“In Flight Suite” - original composition

Fantasy/adventure, celestial, orchestral

Violins play the main motif at the start, which is also heard again toward the end played by a flute and piano.

At 0:18, a time change from 6/8 to 4/4, accompanied by soaring strings and celestial choir emulates soaring above the clouds.

Another big change happens at 0:30, bringing in a second theme and heavier percussion.

“Creaks” - rescored

Mystery, dark, with metallic and acoustic textures

This piece is all about texture. To compliment the industrial atmosphere I used recordings of trash dumpsters, bells, clock chimes, and various other metal artifacts. On top of these I layered a Milltone Tongue Drum, upright piano (plucked and played normally) and several self-made sounds made on an FM synthesizer.

The melody is dark and dissonant, taking unexpected twists and turns just like the player of the game.

“Fallen Angel” - original score

Electronic, upbeat, dark, chiptune-esque

A dark, shifting choir can be heard soaring above this fast paced, synth-heavy piece, which highlight the angels that make up the characters for this game.

All of these synth sounds are made from scratch on U-he’s “Zebra.” Some chiptune elements nod to the Japanese influence and beautiful pixel art in this game.

“On the Run”

Tense, fast-paced, synth-orchestral hybrid

This piece starts with a muted piano ostinato, over which various elements are added - staccato cellos, pulsing synths, some metal percussion, piano, dissonant drones.

At 1:09 the drama increases with a harmonic change, heavier percussion, more prominent synth textures, and solo violin, viola, and cello arpeggios.

Finally at 1:30, the pitch of the entire piece unexpectedly bends down a half step creating further tension and an eerie atmosphere.

“Joy”

Bright, atmospheric, celestial, synthy

Bright, bubbling atmospheric piece. Largely self-made sounds on U-he’s Zebra synthesizer, in addition to some piano, harp, and ethereal choir.

"One Raft” - original score

Mystery, dark, electronic, mellow, retro

This was a fun piece created for a puzzle game in which the player is escaping from a swamp.

Some retro square and triangle wave-based synths underscore the pixel art featured in this game. An eerie melody takes some unexpected twists and turns over the pulse of some self-made plucked synths, harmonium, and a laid back beat that kicks in around 0:20.

Demon Dungeon - original score. Throwback to 8-bit Gameboy games.

“The Path of Calydra” - rescored. Orchestral, harp centered. Interactive audio layers when underwater (ambient pads) and when backpack is jetting along (quick strings).

What they say…

"Ryan is very easy to work with. He is open to feedback, motivated and is very flexible with themes, moods and styles."

  • Christopher Schoch (Game Developer, Demon Dungeon, Fallen Angel, One Raft)

“In no time, Ryan was able to create magical compositions that graced the film. He worked selflessly, and put his whole soul into his music.

I can confidently say that Ryan is one of the most talented composers of our time and future.”
